Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do your candles burn?
Here are some approximate burn times for each of our candles. Be mindful that various conditions, such as accurate wick-trimming, temperature of the room, and whether the candle is burning near a draft, will impact burn time.
- 4oz: 20-25 hours
- 8oz: 35-50 hours
- 12oz: 50-65 hours
- 16oz: 80+ hours
Actual burn time may vary based on wick trimming, room temperature, and burning habits.
How can I make my candle last longer?
To maximize burn time: trim the wick to 1/4 inch before each use, burn for no more than 4 hours at a time, keep away from drafts, and allow the wax to pool completely across the surface during the first burn.
Why is the surface of my candle uneven after burning?
Our candles have no additives and it is normal if, after burning and hardening, the surface of the candle has some pockmarks or craters. Soy candles that are totally smooth after burning have chemical additives in the wax and encourages even hardening.
Why is my wick drowning in wax?
If you do not burn the candle for long enough to establish a full melt pool around the entire diameter of the jar, the wick will begin to tunnel into the wax. Then, when you light the candle again, the wax above it will melt and drown the wick. Always make sure to burn the candle for long enough to establish a full melt pool (at least two hours). If the wick has tunneled, you can put aluminum foil around the outside of the candle to more evenly distribute the heat, and then pour the excess wax into a heat-safe container until it cools and can be safely discarded.
Why did my wick harden in the wax after blowing out the candle?
Soy wax has a higher melting point that paraffin, which means it needs more heat to melt the wax. More heat means largely wicks. If you are burning the candle for around 4 hours, we recommend that, once the wick has cooled, you trim it so that it does not fall into the melted pool of wax and get stuck in it. If that does happen, you can simply use something like a toothpick when the wax is hardened and gently dig it out - this should not affect the performance of your candle.
Are your candles made with natural ingredients?
All our candles are made with 100% natural soy wax that has no additives or dyes and cotton wicked coated in vegetable wax. None of our products contain paraffin. Some of our fragrance oils contain synthetic ingredients, but they all meet the most rigorous testing requirements for cosmetic fragrances. In fact, when it comes to fragrance oils, natural is not always better, as some essential oils are toxic when burned.
